Counting unique words after case-folding answers a different question than a raw word counter: not how long the passage is, but how large its vocabulary is.

Teachers, editors, SEO writers, and readability researchers paste a draft and want the distinct-token total so they can judge lexical richness, repetition, and whether a text is dense or padded. This unique-word counter tokenizes Unicode letters and digits, folds every token to lowercase, then reports the size of the resulting set together with the type-token ratio and how many words appear only once. Empty input is rejected with a clear validation error so pipelines never store a zero-length payload by accident. The free browser widget runs entirely on your device; the prepaid API charges $0.002 per successful item when scripts, CMS jobs, and SDKs need the same contract.

The API is asynchronous: the call returns a task_id immediately and the result arrives by webhook. Polling is capped at 1 req/s per task.
