This diagonal tile layout calculator estimates the extra whole tiles a forty-five degree layout needs compared with a straight axis-aligned grid for the same rectangular floor. You enter room length and width, tile length and width, and an optional breakage percentage for handling and shade lots. The engine builds a classic ceil grid for the straight layout, then applies a deterministic perimeter cut-band model for diagonal installs—band width from the tile diagonal, plus corner scrap—so you see tiles, waste area, and waste percent for both patterns side by side, plus the extra tiles and the extra percentage relative to the room and to the straight purchase. The same pure function powers the free browser tool and the paid API, so a showroom quote matches a later scripted estimate. Keep all lengths in one unit system and treat the result as a planning estimate, not a substitute for a site measure by your installer.

The API is asynchronous: the call returns a task_id immediately and the result arrives by webhook. Polling is capped at 1 req/s per task.

Errors
