A short external length of air participates in the resonance, so the effective acoustic length is slightly longer than the measured tube. That extra length is the end correction. For a single unflanged open end the classical first-order estimate is about six tenths of the inner radius: delta L approximately equals zero point six times r. Instrument makers, physics labs, and acoustic design scripts need that correction before they convert length into fundamental frequency or compare theory with a tuning meter. This pipe end correction calculator accepts the tube radius, multiplies by the fixed factor zero point six, and returns the length correction in the same unit you used for the radius.
